Plan V vs The Black Dog

Release Date: 6th November 2026
Release Format: Digital

In 1998, Ken Downie of The Black Dog and Gustavo Cerati’s Plan V made a record without ever having to be in the same room.

At the time, Ken was living in London/Paignton. Plan V had grown out of Cerati’s electronic work in Santiago, Chile, with Andrés Bucci, Christian Powditch and Guillermo Ugarte. The connection between the two projects developed through an exchange of music and ideas, with material being passed between them by email.

The result was Plan V vs The Black Dog, released by BMG in 1998. The six tracks bring together material from Plan V and The Black Dog, with each side also remixing the other’s work. Cerati described the finished record as a meeting of two different approaches to electronic music, brought together through a common language.

The EP has been unavailable for years. As we continue working through Ken’s archive and bringing material back into circulation, We’ve remastered the original six tracks and we’re making this available again.

Following the same approach as Babylon, the aim is simple: keep these records available and make sure this part of the history doesn’t disappear.
